Lest we forget

Today is the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year. Once special Remembrance Day, huh?

Yesterday at school we had our Remembrance Day ceremony but all I can really say is that people are so immature and disrespectful. Every year we hold the ceremony outside, no matter what the weather is like, so that we can feel even just a little bit of the discomfort that the soldiers must have felt everyday. During the ceremony though all the kids were talking and laughing at the presenters, I can’t believe how rude they are. Good thing there was a teacher right next to us so it wasn’t too bad, but sometimes I just want to throttle people. This is supposed to be a time to remember those who have fought and died for our country, even if it is worlds away from us, you should pay your respects.

In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.
