Where I’m From

I am from the apple tree beside my house

From the stuffed bunny I cuddle and the Nintendo 64 I played

I am from the house on top of the hill

and the animals that live there

I am from the maple tree in my backyard

whose branches held me as I climbed

I am from the rocks I collected and the Antarctic expeditions in my sled

From Crane and Beatty

I am from pessimism and stubbornness

From severe brows

And pronounced noses

I am from baptism to confirmation

I am from Florence Beatrice Tegg and Thomas Windbolt

From Kentucky fried chicken and fish fries

From my great uncle dying in London by a V2 rocket

And from my great gandma being murdered

From my sister punching me in the face as we played

I am from those moments of the house on top of the hill
